Although we do not have photos of every stage, those presented give a good idea of the scope. This project included:
-
-Replaced keel blade (exact dimensions;galvanized and covered with glass/West System) and reassembled and fared bulb. -
-Aluminum keel tracks (badly corroded) replaced with stainless tracks milled to replicate existing tracks by friend with tool manufacturing plant ($-0-, but a debt of gratitude). -
-Cockpit floor and center compartment stringers replaced with new constructed of 1/2" divinycell laminated with woven roving and woven cloth and adhered and fared with West System and filler. -
-Deck adhered with West Sytem and filler (previously riveted together and caulked). -
-Ribs in front and rear compartments readhered where necessary. -
-Deck painted with Awl-Grip with flattening agent and non-slip in floor (wearing great). -
- Hull had been painted prior to reconstruction and could use repainting. -
- Virtually all new deck hardware and lines. Although simple, the layout is much better than original. Standing rigging is solid but seems soft from age. Upgraded roller furling jib halyard tensioner from a lever to adjustable 5 part system with cam cleat. -
-I have an inventory of sails, the best of which are the Mustos recently purchased second hand.
The restore involved many hours and several dozen sanding discs.
The boat is probably just a little heavy due to stainless steel rails and glass work that was not exactly state of the art vacuum bag technology, but she is stiff and still fast. Sails best in a good breeze with a competent crew on the trapeze, like one of my collegiate sons.
